We’re holding a contest!

April 14, 2016

Dear Amador Democratic Supporter,

2016 has arrived and the national and local election campaigns are well under way. California’s primary election is June 7th and will be here before we know it.

The Amador Democrats have usually had their annual dinner in April, but this year it will be held on August 4 and we are honored to have two distinguished speakers: Senate President Pro Tem Kevin de Leon and Speaker Emeritus Toni Atkins. Please Save the Date!

In the meantime, however, we need to raise funds to support our local candidates and to help keep our office in Jackson open. So, we’re holding a contest!

For each $10 donation, you will have the chance to win a prize and we have several (see below). All you have to do is guess the number of Democratic ballots that are received in Amador County for the June Primary Election. You may make multiple guesses, however only one per each $10 donation. (Hint: In the 2012 Democratic primary, approximately 6700 voters voted the Democratic ballot.) Those that come closest to the actual number will win.

The contest entry form is attached below. Simply open it up, fill it out and return it to P.O. Box 924, Sutter Creek, CA 95685 or bring it by the office at the Mother Lode Plaza, 557 So. Hwy. 49, Suite 3 (around the corner from Modern Cuts) in Jackson. We’d love to have you visit our office, but if no one is there, slip it in the mail slot. Multiple entries are accepted. Entries must be postmarked by Monday, June 6, 2016 or received in our office on Monday, June 6, 2016 by 5:00 PM.

Reminder: we always need volunteers to help us Get Out The Vote, so let us know if you are willing to help. Call 209-257-1397 and leave a message.

We are so grateful for your past and continuing support for the Amador County Democrats. We may not be a blue county yet, but we’re hoping to at least turn it purple and we can’t do that without your help and a visible presence. Thank you!

Sincerely,
Amador County Democratic Central Committee

What Ails America According to the Three Top GOP Candidates

I came across a really good article by Paul Walden writing for The Week magazine regarding what the top three GOP candidates are saying about what is “Wrong with America”. Simply stated, I go along with Burnie Sanders and his observation that what is wrong with America is the take-over by the wrich. BUT, it is important for the progressive activist to know the truth about our adversaries on the right IF we are to get our voters out to vote in election day.

Please read the full article HERE or click the picture. I know that you will find it informative and that it puts the personalities in perspective very well.

Overturn Citizens United – Proposition 49 will be on California’s ballot!

Overturn Citizens United!  2016 is already off to a monumental start!

This recentlyconstitutional-amendment, the California Supreme Court affirmed the right of California voters to be heard. The court just ruled that voters are allowed to vote on Proposition 49, the Overturn Citizens United Act!

Prop. 49 gives Californians the opportunity to instruct Congress to take action to stop the unlimited flood of spending in electoral campaigns by supporting a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United.

In 2014’s November Election, California voters would have had this same opportunity. However, the state court ordered the proposition to be temporarily removed from the ballot because of a question about whether voter instructions are allowed.

But today, the California Supreme Court stood with We the People!

The court upheld our state’s long tradition ‎of giving people the power to instruct our congressional members‎ to pass important constitutional amendments – Prop. 49 would create the power to rein in the influence of money in politics.

As part of a coalition of organizations led by our partner citizen group, Money Out Voters In, California Common Cause advocated to make sure We the People have our voices heard.

Together, we can raise our voices for democracy in 2016!

Thanks for all that you do,
